5 Ways to Master the Art of Being Stressed

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

A simple google search will provide you with many tips, tricks, and techniques to help lower your stress, but there isn’t much advice on how to guarantee that your stress levels stay up high in the red zone. So, I thought I’d take a minute to share my thoughts on the art of staying stressed out!

  1. Imagine the worst case scenario happening in every area of your life. Now you can’t do half-ass this one. You have to go all in and really imagine the worst possible outcome for every situation you encounter. A helpful question you might ask yourself is, ‘how could things get even worse?’ And really put yourself in that situation, best you can. Imagine yourself with a deadly disease. You don’t just lose your job, you lose all your money, you end up homeless on the streets without friends or family. The more bad outcomes the better. Don’t just think about one bad outcome there should always be multiple, maybe five or six different terrible things all happening at once. It’s like I always say, a busy mind is a stressful mind!

  2. Believe that improvement is impossible. In order to stay stressed, you need to truly believe that there is no chance of changing or improving your situation. Not only will bad things continue to happen in your life, but there is absolutely no hope of getting better. Because it’s one thing to fear what might happen in the future but when we believe that there’s no hope of change it creates a sense of defeat and depression that can really help guarantee that we won’t take any steps to try to get less stressed. You may find it helpful to take up bad posture and pull out your hair.

  3. Indulge in imaginary arguments. In order to ensure your stress stays high you’ve got to imagine arguments with everyone you meet. You’ve got to assume that what they’re always thinking of you is the absolute worst of the worst. You’ve got to go into these imaginary arguments with gusto and really feel what it would lie like to be dominated in this argument.

  4. Don’t be honest with anyone. In order for this to be effective you’ve got to believe without a doubt that your friends, coworkers, and family members are all out to get you. That they’re talking about you behind your back. Make sure that you don’t tell these people what’s going on in your mind because they might prove you wrong. You’ve got to keep it to yourself so that you can go home at night and have all the imaginary arguments you deserve. Most importantly don’t be honest with yourself! Cause if you’re not honest with yourself about taking responsibility and action then you’ll never trust anyone else.

  5. Compare yourself to the most unrealistically perfect version of yourself and others. Because you’re not being honest you can’t look at where you’re actually at in your life. You’ve got to compare yourself to the best version of you that doesn’t even exist, but definitely should exist because you should be perfect at all times and in all situations. This really helps in promoting feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and most importantly doubt to keep you stuck right where you are.

I hope this article has given you some insights in keeping your stress levels high!

Okay…joking aside, I thought this might serve as a useful way to see how some of the things we do unconsciously leads us into states of stress. Does any of this sound familiar to you?

It’s important to remember that not one of us is perfect, but that we’re all doing the best we can with the information we have. If you recognize some of these habits in your life, all is not lost, you’re not a failure, and you’re most certainly not broken. We’re all capable of changing habits and developing effective coping strategies for stress. It might take time and patience, but if you know what it’s like in the ‘red zone’ then you know how uncomfortable high stress can feel.

Up until now you may have operated in a certain way, but you can make the choice to change that right now.
